Fall Asleep Faster

By Jennifer Gruenemay, ACE-Certified, LifeScript Staff Write

Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? For many adults, drifting into the Land of Nod is a very slow process – one that can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, which is basically a waste of quality sleep time. Studies show that adults need eight hours of uninterrupted sleep to fully recover from the day’s events and to prepare for another busy day. Lucky for you, relief from insomnia can be found within an activity you should be doing anyway – exercise. According to a recent study from Stanford University, exercising for just 30-40 minutes a day can help you fall asleep faster than if you hadn’t exercised. In fact, this amount of exercise can grant you 11.5 minutes more sleep and help you drift into your dreams that much faster. Getting enough exercise may also help you to stay asleep longer, giving you that quality, uninterrupted sleep your body craves. Just make sure you don’t do your workout too close to bedtime, which can make you too wired to fall asleep. Morning workouts are the all-around best bet for getting the most out of your day, and your night. So set that alarm clock, set out your sneakers and know that you’re setting yourself up for another fulfilling day
