The Many Benefits of Exercise
By Dr. John H. Sklare

When it comes to healthy living, exercise is a critical component for success.  And not only does it benefit you physically, it will also boost your self-esteem and improve your mood.  If you have not yet incorporated exercise into your life, please find a way to make that happen. You simply must make exercise an integral part of your life if weight control and healthy living is your goal. Regular physical activity is a major contributor to effective weight loss, physical health and emotional well-being.

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity, combined with drinking water and healthy eating, is the most efficient and effective way to improve your health, control your weight and enhance your mood. When you exercise, your body produces substances called endorphins. These are the biochemicals that are associated with producing a euphoric feeling of peace and satisfaction.  As a matter of fact, these are the very chemicals that are responsible for creating the high that athletes describe at the end of a workout.  Besides the obvious physical benefits, exercise also stimulates the brain to release the specific endorphins that are credited with suppressing sensations of pain and increasing sensations of well-being and self-esteem.  Increased self-esteem is an inevitable by-product of a stronger and healthier mind and body. In some cases, exercise actually helps to prevent or decrease depression.

It’s time to step up to the plate and make this happen. As George Bernard Shaw so eloquently stated, “You see things and you say, why?  But I dream things and I say why not?”  Why not make today the day you begin adding exercise to your routine. Your body, your mind and your spirit will reap the benefits!  If healthy living is your goal, exercise is a must, so start to reap of the many benefits of exercise.

Wishing You Great Health,
Dr. John H. Sklare
