Staying Motivated in Critical Moments

By Dr. John H. Sklare

One of the issues that constantly challenge those seeking healthier lives is finding ways to motivate oneself to stay in tune with healthy living. It seems that no matter how determined you are to embrace healthy living, life always has a way of making you reconsider your commitment and readjust your goals. The key to staying motivated and finding success, in my humble opinion, lies in learning how to manage those moments of truth that either make or break your effort. You know what moments I’m talking about.  I’m referring to those very critical moments where temptation meets weakness.

People are always looking for new ways to motivate themselves when it comes to staying in a healthy living frame of mind.  When all is said and done, however, it’s motivation that keeps people going when the going gets tough.  And motivation, to a large degree, is a lot like a fire.  In order to keep both alive and burning, you need to fan their flames and continuously add fuel to the mix.

No matter who you are, you will definitely experience moments of weakness when that manipulative little voice inside your head is coaxing you into unhealthy territory. These moments of truth are critical because there is one magnificent moment when the decision to eat is made, and if you can manage that moment, you can solve this problem.  Find what motivates you most and then make that motivation a key weapon in your wellness arsenal!

Wishing You Great Health,
Dr. John H. Sklare
