Let Your Bad Diet Gross You Out
FREE DAILY DIET TIP
By Jennifer Gruenemay, ACE-Certified, LifeScript Staff Writer

If you’re a chronic overeater and can’t seem to put your fork down, even when you’re obviously full, we have the solution for you. Get grossed out! Nutrition and weight loss experts have discovered that when you make the remaining food on your plate look unappetizing, you actually lose your appetite for it. Simple things, such as putting the handles of your silverware into the food left on your plate (so they’re too messy to pick up again), or wadding up your used napkin and tossing it on top of the remaining food can help you to think twice about eating more. It may seem a little bit silly, but it’s a trick that works for a lot of people. Take, for example, dieters who purchase fake five-pound globs of plastic fat and put it on the top shelf in their refrigerator. You take one look at that, glance down at your thighs and think: “Ewww! OK, I definitely don’t want that slice of Boston cream pie now.” A less extreme, but perhaps even more motivating diet tip, is to place a picture of yourself at your heaviest on the refrigerator door as a reminder of why you’re watching your calories. Whatever it is that works for you, don’t be afraid to get a little bit grossed out at your bad eating habits. It can definitely help you make better food choices that will ultimately help you reach your weight loss goals.
