Squeeze Juice Out of Your Diet
FREE DAILY DIET TIP
By Jennifer Gruenemay, ACE-Certified, LifeScript Staff Writer

If you want to lose weight, experts suggest staying away from the liquid version of your favorite fruits and veggies. Juice, especially fresh-squeezed, is a fabulous source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, but it’s also a sizable source of calories. And if you really need to cut calorie corners, it’s time to cut juice loose. Instead, eat a piece of fresh fruit or a handful of veggies; you’ll save yourself a lot of calories. Take for example the difference between a typical 12-ounce glass of orange juice and a large orange. Drinking your orange will cost you about 165 calories, whereas the much more filling piece of fruit adds only 80 calories to your day. Juice almost doubles your calories and also contains a lot of sugars. This can lead to spikes in blood sugar, which later crash, leaving you feeling hungry and searching for your next snack. Whole fruit, on the other hand, contains a lot of appetite-suppressing fiber that helps keep blood sugar levels steady and curbs hunger. So, instead of pouring yourself a tall, cold one, reach for that bowl of fruit. You’ll be one step closer to meeting your weight loss goals
